I couldn't share this project until today because they wanted it to be a surprise! They all worked very hard to finish it in time. It had many steps and they worked on it for weeks. They strung the beads any chance they got, during read aloud, snack, and free time. They painted, cut, decorated, made presents, assembled, and added new features every day. Just when we thought it was finished, a student would come up with an idea of something we could add to make it better. It is a wonderful gift but it also taught them to work on a project for many weeks and to take pride in their work. It made them have patience because it was not going to be finished in a day. It also took everyone a different amount of time so it showed them to work at their own speed to do their best work. It was so sweet to watch them work on it with such care because they each wanted to give their family a beautiful gift.
We were invited to go and watch the Middle School practice for Iron Chef. We got to taste test latkes, venison and pumpkin quesadilla. It was lots of fun and very tasty! It was especially cool for them to taste latkes because we had read about this week in several of the Chanukah books we read.
