I read several Pigeon books and then we did a directed drawing. They turned out fantastic. The student also had to think of something kind for the Pigeon to say to put in the speech bubble! These last two pictures were done by classmates that are moving. We will miss you, too!
When the snow piles up and then melts, it is difficult for it to drain so it doesn't make a puddle in front of the door to the playground. Students have long enjoyed trying to get it to drain faster. I just happened to capture it on my camera today! Definitely some play-based learning going on here!
One Friday, when we couldn't ice skate, we did readers' theater instead. Then some of the students put on a play. Some parts are difficult to hear but very cute anyways.
First Graders are still plugging away at number sense up to 120. It is so much more than rote counting. It is understanding place value. We used cubes to count by ones, then fives, and then tens. Some even counted backwards! They are also practicing knowing what number comes before and after random numbers. This is all on top of learning how to add and subtract fluently.
